EBA launches consultation on amendments to Guidelines on the systemic risk buffer

The European Banking Authority (EBA) has launched a public consultation on draft amendments to its Guidelines regarding the application of the systemic risk buffer (SyRB).

What’s new? Under the revised Capital Requirements Directive (CRD VI), the amendments are specifically designed to help authorities more effectively use the SyRB to tackle systemic risks stemming from climate change.

Key updates include:

  • Greater Granularity: Enhanced geographical and sectoral classifications to better identify exposures vulnerable to physical and transition climate risks.
  • Better Design & Monitoring: Incorporating lessons learned from the current implementation of SyRB measures across Member States.

Get involved: Industry stakeholders are invited to share their feedback on these crucial guidelines. The consultation is open for comments until April 30, 2026. Additionally, the EBA will host a virtual public hearing on April 9, 2026, for interested parties.
