September 2026: AMLA to Reveal First Entities Selected for Direct Supervision

AMLA has taken the next step toward the 2027 selection of financial institutions that could fall under its direct AML/CFT supervision.

The Authority has published a reporting package for national supervisors, who will collect harmonised AML/CFT data from financial institutions across the EU to support AMLA’s future selection process.

Key timeline:
▸ 10 June 2026 — AMLA public webinar on the reporting template
▸ 15 August 2026 — deadline for national supervisors to collect data
▸ End-September 2026 — provisional list of eligible obliged entities expected
▸ 2027 — formal selection process by AMLA
▸ 2028 — start of direct supervision

Following the data collection phase, an error correction and alignment process will be performed in coordination with home supervisors before the provisional list is finalised.

The package includes:
▪️ a standardised reporting template
▪️ data specifications
▪️ guidance for supervisors and institutions

According to AMLA, the framework is designed to support a harmonised and risk-based methodology for identifying institutions that may become subject to direct EU-level supervision.

The future directly supervised entities are expected to include institutions with:
✔️ significant cross-border activities
✔️ operations in multiple Member States
✔️ higher ML/TF risk exposure
