EBA launches consultation on simplifying the credit risk framework

The European Banking Authority (EBA) has officially launched a public consultation on its latest Discussion Paper, aiming to streamline and simplify the EU’s credit risk framework.

What is the goal? Following its 2025 Report on regulatory efficiency, the EBA is exploring concrete ways to enhance the usability, efficiency, and simplicity of credit risk rules. The paper looks at consolidating existing EBA products, aligning key regulatory definitions, and making the Single Rulebook much easier for institutions to navigate—all while maintaining the crucial balance between risk-sensitivity and cost-efficiency.

Have your say: This is a great opportunity for industry stakeholders to help shape a more coherent and efficient regulatory landscape. The public consultation is open for comments until May 10, 2026.
